The Friends of the International Mathematical Union (FIMU) is an organization that supports the activities of the International Mathematical Union (IMU). It is a non-profit corporation and entitled to receive tax free donations from US taxpayers. FIMU was established on July 17, 2008 as a US 501 (c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt corporation registered in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, US. The Tax Id/EIN is #26-3185549
FIMU administers the financial aspects of a number of funds that support mathematics; for example, funding for the Chern Medal Award, supported by the Chern Foundation and the Simons Foundation. It also administers the contributions from members of the American Mathematical Society and other donors, that are directed to foster mathematics research and scholarship in developing countries.
